When you want to start collecting
Militaria, you will encounter many fakes and you will be scr...ed sometimes
ending up with junk.
There is not much you can do about
it.... Many people have left the hobby, because there are so much reproductions.
I don't mind buying repro's from time to time as a sort of
"replacement" until I find the real deal, the only thing I do hate is
when repro's are being offered  (and sold for the same prices) as real
stuff.
Most of the stuff I have is
original, but no doubt there are fake items that I don't know about.... Maybe it
is even better I don't find out :-)
There is no way you can avoid this,
the only tip I can give is this: LITERATURE !!!!!!
Studying pictures of real equipment
is the only way to recognise fakes and copys, and even then it is very hard !!
so try to get your hands on as many books as you can.
On this page you will find the books
I use. Some are invaluable, some are just nice for the pictures.
I never have done reviews of books
in my entire life, so I will not start now. I'll just give an idea if I like it
or not.

Title: German Combat Equipment 1939-1945 Writer: Jean-Philippe Borg Publisher: Histoire & Collections ISBN number: 978-2-35250-304-0 Year: 2014 What I think: If you are new to German equipment : buy this one
!, If you are an advanced collector: buy this one ! This book from my good friend J-P Borg is an
absolute must !! (and not just because my name is mentioned in the book
at the acknowledgements :) ) It describes the basics of German Equipment
throughout the war, illustrated by colour pictures of the items, and
black and white pictures of the soldiers wearing them. I also see this book as a tribute to
Laurent Huart, a dear friend who passed away
		too soon !!! |
